2017 Conference: Origins

The main theme of the Inaugural Conference of the Society of Catholic Scientists was "Origins". There were talks on the origin of the universe, of habitable planets, of biological species, of human language, as well as talks on a wide variety of other topics.

2018 Conference: The Human Mind and Physicalism

The main theme of the 2018 Conference of the Society of Catholic Scientists was "The Human Mind and Physicalism," and specifically whether a purely materialist view can account for the mental and spiritual capacities of human beings There were talks on free will, quantum mechanics, human rationality, and other topics.

2019 Conference: What Does It Mean to Be Human?

The theme of the conference was “What does it mean to be human?”  This included such questions as What is “human nature”? When did it appear? Did Neanderthals and other archaic species of Homo have it? When does an individual human life begin? Can human nature be changed by genetic engineering? In what ways are humans unique on earth? Are we unique in the cosmos?  These questions were explored from the point of view of biology, paleoanthropology, philosophy, theology, and other disciplines.

2021 Conference: Extraterrestrials, AI, and Minds Beyond The Human

The main theme of the conference was “Extraterrestrials, AI, and Minds Beyond the Human," and concerned various kinds of real or hypothetical intelligences that are not human or biologically related to humans, especially extraterrestrial intelligence and artificial intelligence.

2022 Conference: Earth and Environmental Stewardship

The main theme of the conference was Earth and Environmental Stewardship. There were talks on the Church’s teaching on the subject from ancient times to the present as well as scientific talks on a wide range of environmental topics, including pollution, water, soil, resource management, ecosystem restoration, climate, and biodiversity.
