Sr. Damien Marie Savino, F.S.E.
Sister Damien Marie Savino, F.S.E., is a Franciscan Sister and currently serves as the Melchor Visiting Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at the University of Notre Dame. Previously, she was Dean of Science and Sustainability at Aquinas College (Grand Rapids, MI). She received her Ph.D. in Civil (Environmental) Engineering from the Catholic University of America, where she also completed an MA in Theology. Her scientific research focused on endocrine-disrupting chemicals in wastewater, remediation of persistent organic chemicals in soil and groundwater, and the application of resilience theory to ecosystem health. Her interdisciplinary publications focus on integral ecology, theology of creation, evolution and faith, and Catholic social teachings on creation care, and the unique role of human persons in the created world.
