Gold Mass, Reception, and Public Lecture on Nov 15 in Notre Dame, IL.

November 15, 2023 at 3:15 pm - 5:15 pm

There will be a Gold Mass at 5:15pm on Wednesday, Nov 15, in Sacred Heart Basilica on the campus on University of Notre Dame.  Mass will be followed by a Reception at 6:15pm in the Galleria of the Jordan Hall of Science (light refreshments).

At 7:15pm the Edison Lecture will be given by Prof. Maureen L. Condic on “How Science Resolves the Question of the Beginning of Life.”

Human life begins at sperm-egg fusion, but how does one resolve the questions raised when a single embryo splits into two (or more) genetically identical human beings? Maureen Condic will present the scientific evidence for when human life begins and when human identical twinning occurs, and will examine the philosophical issues raised by human twinning.

This event is sponsored by Notre Dame’s College of Engineering and College of Science, and by the Society of Catholic Scientists Chapter at Notre Dame
