DESCRIPTION:There will be a Public Lecture at 7:00pm on Monday\, January 27\, at the Penn Newman Center of the University of Pennsylvania (111 South 38th Street\, University City\, Philadelphia).  The speaker is Prof. Maureen Condic of Catholic University of America (who is a Board member of SCS).  The title of the talk is “The Mystery of Human Life? On Biological Development and the Continuity Problem.”  The talk will be followed by a Q&A and a light reception \nThe event is sponsored by the Collegium Institute at the University of Pennsylvania as part of its Magi Project in partnership with the Philadelphia-area Chapter of the Society of Catholic Scientists and the Thomistic Institute. \nThis is the inaugural event of the Philadelphia -area Chapter of SCS.   \nREGISTER FOR THE EVENT HERE. \nMore about the Lecture:  In her lecture on the eve of the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas\, Dr. Condic will explore the leading proposals for identifying the beginning and end of human life as well as the scientific and philosophical challenges to each before making her own argument\, drawing from her work as a neurobiologist and molecular developmental biologist. Her remarks will be followed by an audience Q&A and light reception. \nMore about the Speaker: Dr. Condic is the inaugural Ombudsman and Distinguished Ordinary Professor at CUA\, and previously served as an Associate Professor of Neurobiology and Anatomy at the University of Utah School of Medicine. She is the author of two books on human development: Human Embryos\, Human Beings: A Scientific and Philosophical Approach and Untangling Twinning: What Science Tells Us about the Nature of Human Embryos.
