Lecture on September 14, 2026, at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.

September 14 at 5:30 pm

Lecture on September 14, 2026, at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.

There will be a lecture on Monday, Sept 14, at 5:30pm on the Purdue Campus in Room 170 of BHEE (465 Northwestern Ave, West Lafayette, IN 47907). There will light snacks at 5:00 outside the lecture room. The title of the talk is “Human Evolution within a Christian Understanding of Creation.”

The speaker: Daniel Kuebler is a professor of Biology at Franciscan University and former Dean of the School of Natural and Applied Sciences there. (Ph.D. Molecular and Cell Biology 1999, UC Berkeley).  His research involves studying adult stem cells in bone marrow and adipose tissue for use in orthopedic treatments. He teaches courses in evolution, cell biology, and science and faith. He is the co-author of The Evolution Controversy: A Survey of Competing Theories (Baker Academic, 2007), a scientific critique of the various theories of evolutionary thought, and the author of Darwin and Doctrine: The Compatibility of Evolution and Catholicism (2025). He is the Vice President of the Society of Catholic Scientists.

Abstract of talk: Many people find it difficult to reconcile a Christian understanding of the human person as made in the image and likeness of God with the evolutionary development of the human body. This presentation will discuss the theology of human evolution as well as outline our current scientific understanding of the evolutionary connection of humans to other hominins. Taking both into account, as well as the understanding that humans are a unity of both body and soul, the presentation will outline possible ways of properly understanding the origin of the first humans that are consistent with both the Christian understanding of man and the science of evolution.

Note: BHEE is on Northwestern Ave across from the Northwestern Garage; free parking available at the garage from 5:00 PM)
